Something happened this week , something hit me like a ton of bricks and made me think.
There is a person in ROAVR who is key to everything we do. That person is Jill, she man’s the phones, grabs me a sneaky coffee and keeps the cogs turning. Jill has been with me since I started the three months on Transformers in 2016. The trouble is, I lost her in January.
Why?
Here is the kicker, maternity leave. I never understood why women are treated so badly by employers, what a crappy thing to do. Until January that is, then I understood, I certainly don't condone it though!
To lose someone so key to the business, even short term is like a shot through the head.
Just this week Jill popped in for a catch up day and very quickly passed the wee man over to me before exciting stage left! We managed a quick selfie but he doesn't look impressed!
When little Alastair was born back in February, I went round to see Jill and her family. Then it hit me damn, I’m responsible for making sure this lovely lady has one less thing to worry about, money and job security.
But that’s cool. Because permeating through everything we do at ROAVR is a sense of responsibility. I take my responsibility to my employees damn seriously! That doesn’t mean it’s not been hard, but she’ll be back soon and even better Alastair can come visit for more cuddles. I might even let him have a propeller or two to play with :)
When we rock up to a shoot we have the right kit, for sure we do. But more importantly , we have the right frame of mind and the right attitude. That starts with treating your employees right and finishes with treating your clients like family.
Have a great evening!
